A CITO with a difference, this will be a morning picking up rubbish and scrubbing modern graffiti form the walls of Box Freestone quarry. Due to the location this will have to have limited numbers (sorry no young children). You will be split up into small groups and have a mine explorer/caver to show the way and to ask about what can and should not be scrubbed as some of the writing on the walls date back as far as 1710.
The meeting time will be 0900 and aiming to finish at 1300 you will need to bring a torch/hard hat boiler suit or a change of clothes as you will get dirty. A wire bush will also be needed they can be bought at any diy store. Gloves will come in hand as there is a short crawl at the entrance and for picking up rubbish."

I will be attending this event with xJammmzy. If anyone else is thinking about attending this one and wants to join up with us for the journey down there, please let me know. I have three car set spaces free at present. I want to get there a good half hour before it starts, as I know there's not a lot of parking along the road of the green. After the event I intend doing a little mooching about the area, but not for too long as my better half is going out in the evening and I will need to be back to do my duties at home.
I have one spare builder's hard hat if anyone needs, but bike helmets will do fine for this.
Hey Gackt, I was looking at going to Barnwood CITO in Gloucester, as I didn't know originally anyone going to this one, but would rather hit Box. Is there a space still available?
Any chance of going down with you please, plus I can then give you the items I have for you.
There's more than enough room in the car at the moment as it's only James and I still going down, so that's not a problem and would be great to meet up again.
The current 'will attends' must be reaching close the max numbers that will be allowed to do this. I would post a 'will attend' sooner than later to affirm your place. I am going to mail madrab now to see if he has an idea yet of the max numbers he is thinking of.
You'd be surprised where you find large amounts of litter, such as, in this case, underground
You would! But the chances are that there will not be a lot of litter extracted from there. The entrances often gather litter such as drink bottles, where kids go in to explore just a little bit. The further you venture the litter decreases, till you just see the odd tea light or glow stick, and the odd drinks can. Occasionally though some people venture far into these places for a party, or set up mass amount of tea lights to set the scene for creative photos, and then leave all their rubbish behind.
This CITO will probably be more a graffiti cleaning exercise. This particular quarry does suffer from modern graffiti artists making their mark and creating trails to find their way out again.
I am happy to mooch with you to such places if you like. There is one hole I haven't entered yet (that sounds a bit wrong doesn't it) that's not cache related. That I want to try and squeeze into to see if it goes anywhere. But that won't take long. Unless I get stuck.
Hehe, well I'm happy to try any and all that you're willing to go to after you do the mooching you want to do.
I'm wanting to get an understanding of the series and the area. I might not be the thinnest person but I can at times get through some surprising gaps. I know about overalls and hat and light, going to try and get a hat but anything else worth getting or I need?
A few other bits I could mention are depending on which BA caches you would look to do, a UV torch. But don't buy one special or this trip, I have one.
Knee / arm pads if you bruise easily for any crawling / climbing parts. I don't use, but I probably should sometimes. A photo after doing a similarish cache in the area, not a BA one though:
Both arms and legs were like this. Body not used to being pressed against rock. I don't think there'll be any major crawling or climbing this time though. There's a bit of a crawl at the start of the Fallen Monarch if you do it the described route.
I tend to often wear some raggedy fingertipless gloves. Not really needed, but offers me a touch more protection when crawling.
Right, just double checked any and all Above / Below caches, and noticed you have done them all, So is there any you would recommend, and then I can see if I have worked out the puzzles. I'm just grateful to make the meet and grab something different with the possible ideas of coming back to them all at a later date with a friend, but want to take her to some of the best, and after ideas.
Body protection, I have gloves and I might have some armour around to protect knees and elbows.
The order of difficulty that bareclawz has ordered his caches himself are a good order to complete them in. That said, the first time we did the first few caches we actually did White Bird first and then Fallen Monarch second, then moved on to a couple of others. The reasons for that become evident with the puzzles worked out.
The uncache related hole I am interested in poking my head into is very close to White Bird.
On the topic of the CITO, I see that a couple of people have posted notes saying that they can no longer make it, So if anyone else was interested in this one, now's a good time to jump in whilst places have been freed up.
I'd like to come along, but I doubt I'll be fit enough to come under yet. But I might try to get to Cathedral. If anyone is coming from Salisbury direction and has room for one more, let me know please, best way is my user name @aol.com Thanks
