Look at stanthews wiltshire events. I attend regularly and they are always good. he tries do do something each month to get integration between cachers.
Griff Groff, I am happy if you would like to open discuss on here, or if you want to send ideas by pm. Unless you really want to keep ideas behind doors for the moment, keeping them open could be good discussion points for others maybe?
I am happy to listen to any ideas. My first official event though I am not going to label with Cotswold Caching. It will just be simple pub meet/greet/drink, trackable swaps etc, just so I get the feel and experience of hosting one. If the weather doesn't turn too badly tomorrow I am will head up to the Tunnel House in the afternoon just to check they'd be happy for a bit of extra business one afternoon soon.
I haven't been to any of the stanthews wiltshire events. I have seen them pop up when they have been published, but never gotten to one yet. I have been to a couple hosted by the Middleleaze Moles. Their easter event a couple of years ago was so popular, it felt like it was going to go mega! It actually was nowhere near, but still 60+ caching teams logged attended, many of which had a number of family members there, is was quite packed.

I'm hoping to attend this months Wiltshire event next week I've been to one of the Middleaze Moles events, the Christmas 2010 one, and it was also popular in a nice friendly atmosphere (after a great days caching in Wiltshire)
Okay, so this is my idea for a series of Cotswold Caching events: A monthly, bi-monthly or just regular, not fixed, events roving around the Cotswolds. It could be simple evening/afternoon events, just putting faces to names etc - sometimes these events are the best ;D
By roving, I mean each time it would be held in a different area of the Cotswolds, possibly by a member local to that venue (Before I came about CacheWalker actually decided to do something like this, having monthly evening meets moving to and from each members 'local'). So one could be held in Cirencester, the next in Bourton on the Water, the next in Chipping Campden, then Northleach etc etc this way Cotswold Cachers from all around will have a chance to attend one
It could also be nice, as a bonus and for the events to be unique, to place one new cache in each place the events are held. This would eventually create a Cotswold Caching series, which we could have stats for (like the Little Quest, but not as hard) and there would be no limit. This would also be good for making people attend an event, knowing they will grab another cache for the series

The Wiltshire events are good to look at and hopefully I'll see you there next week then. I'm not a very sociable person, in fact I'm quite shy when it comes to meeting new people etc. Very happy to sit in the corner with a pint, sign the log and make a get away. Different when I've had a few, but that only happens if I can convince the Mrs to come along Stan always tries to have some sort of theme/competition that encourages cachers to mix. Raffles are good too, even if its just to help put more names to faces.
My thoughts are that if it is to be reasonably regular, the Event needs to be simple or otherwise people may find that they don't have time to organise the Event.
Like the idea of an Event cache as well, as this adds to the draw to get cachers to attend.
An idea I liked that I saw at a monthly Event, is cachers getting together, trying to solve those really difficult puzzles. This may be contentious, what do people think?

Sounds good to me ;D And yes, it would have to be a simple evening event, with little things like puzzles going on
Just a quick 'check in' by me here for the moment, I have got a busy evening so, in short for now..
I like your ideas Griff Grof. I would definitely be up for this, if others would be interested in doing to. If to be held in a different place each time I would have to have the help of others to organise / host some of the events. Maybe some events could be joint CacheWalker / Cotswold Caching events? ..just throwing a random thought into the discussion.
Placing one new cache is one of the things I am going to do in conjunction with my first event. Only just the one though, as at present I don't have the time to set a series, and the Cirencester area is quite swamped with caches already, so I don't see the need to put lots of caches out for the sake of it.
I will have a think about all of this more whilst I am out and about for the rest of today.
I am pencilling in the next stanthews' event. I would like to go, but not confident I can arrange myself to get there for that one.

I have been to see the landlord of the Tunnel House near Coates today. I have booked in with him for the afternoon of the 9th Feb. They had a couple of lovely roaring fires going, I didn't want to leave. Will work on the cache page tomorrow, but probably be a couple of days before it's on the map. .. just a heads up.
Some of the events could be joint CacheWalker and Cotswold Caching But as CacheWalker has its own signature events (pre-event walk followed by pub event) so would Cotswold Caching. CacheWalker have held a few evening pub events before and since I came along, like those suggested for Cotswold Caching, such as the end of the world event I think it might be good to keep Cotswold Caching under those, and have joint ones for such events. So, in general, I think that they should generally not be joint, but a couple joint a year would be nice... Or just keep the two separate... But I think it would be nice to have a joint one ever so often
Your event sounds great! I love cosy pubs like that, 9th of Feb sounds good too Furthermore, good that you'll have one cache published Not sure if you misunderstood my suggestion about the Cotswold Caching series with a cache at each event, so I'll make it a bit clearer for everyone:
As the event moves around the Cotswolds, one single cache is placed at or near (cache 'n' dash, or along a path) the event venue. As more events get organized, we'll soon have ended up with many caches overall, at each location we've held one. They could therefore be part of a series, Cotswold Caches or something, which would promote Cotswold Caching.
As more get published to coincide with more events held, people could start finding them in order to complete the series, giving them a Cotswold 'tour' of the best we have to offer. We could have stats on who has found the most, too. Maybe even a puzzle cache finale, of which you have to find some of the caches
Having a new cache at each location would also be another reason for Cachers to attend - as walk tall said - as they'd be able to have FTF chance, and find another cache of the series.
Of course, the main focus would be the event. As walk tall said, it could be kept simple, just faces to names, drinks, food, quizzes... Evening events would be perfect for this, as everyone will have finished work etc. And, having them in a new location each time would mean cachers from all around would have a chance to attend!
I'm sure many of us would be happy to organize one, they're only simple events after all
I think having regular Cotswold Caching events would be really good for promoting it... in this short time more than 1000 posts have been made, and there are so many local cachers who still are unaware we're here! You've done a brilliant job setting it all up Gackt, and it would be really nice to have even more join us over here! ;D
Thank you for the compliment Griff Groff I fully understood your first post by the way, if it didn't sound like it, then that's because I was going off at a tangent thinking about other events where series have been placed. One cache per event sounds perfectly doable and I am up for that.
Events definitely will bring more activity in the form or new members. I have witnessed that through CacheWalker's Twixmas. I saw the info notes about CacheWalker at the event, and sure enough soon after a couple more new members popped up
I am definitely interested in doing this. I will use my first event as kind of a practice run, it will be of a similar simple format that has already been suggested, with just one cache being placed.
I am kind of rushing and typing again right now, it's quite a busy weekend for me, but I will keep thinking about this whilst I am out and about.
A quick thought on placing a cache connected with a Cotswold Caching event.. would there be any problems calling a cache Cotswold Caching something or other, or are Groundspeak ok with that level of advertising?

I don't think so Caching groups are not-for-profit and they are Geocaching related, so it should be fine After all, several series' have 'CacheWalker' in their name, including the one published for the recent Twixmas walk
The event is becoming quite popular with some big names, and one reviewer, now
I was hoping to go on a walk caching on Sunday, and maybe squeeze in the event the day before. Now I've got the most awful cold/flu I don't know if I'll be able to do either
We'll have to see, but I'd love to be a part of your first event which looks set to be a great success
It does look like there will be a good few people there, which is quite pleasing. I know some are maybes, and from attending a few other events that some people probably won't be there for the whole time, so I am not going to use the external function room. It will just be kept in the cosy pub.
Who's the reviewer, or is that a secret?
I am looking at trying to get to your skittle one in March, but I can't confirm a yes yet as I have so much going on at present. I will do my best to work it in though.
Turner Tribe said they'd be bringing La Lunatica, a reviewer for the south, along... Now we all know who the reviewer previously with a secret identity is
