As the name of Mylène song Oui mais... non. Un peu. Sadly, très peu. Not first time I am asked. It is strange, I admit.
I often listen to Mylène and few other similar artists when I am walking, and sometimes at work when surroundings allow. Reasons behind may seem odd to some, including my family, especially as I effectively failed the subject at school. In 2003 I start to play an online text based role play game. Many of our characters were based on famous real people. A year later my character met this character and became good friends in-game and real life. Based on the personality of Mylène, the character, as is the real person behind, french speaking. I had not heard of Mylène up to that point and from Corinne, the player, I learned much about the artist.. her life, her current activities, and about her songs.. Corinne translating new song lyrics to me when new songs were released. Even if at the start I knew no word, and really I did know no word of french, the song tunes were good so I liked to listen to.. and still do.
I first travelled to visit Corinne in Belgium in 2006, armed with my child version french picture dictionary I met her father, who has now sadly passed on, and he told me the only real way to learn a language is to stay in the country. Well I didn't stay, I think my family here would not be amused but I have visited her more times, two times to accompany her to see Mylène in concert.
I fear if I stopped regularly listening to the music and reading news reports about Mylène, Alizée etc the little of the language I pick up will would be forgotten quickly. Some people are just not wired to learn other languages, I am one of those people. Luckily j'adore Mylène and do not think I will ever tire of he music.
Side note, my game character was based on the personality of japanese singer/actor Gackt, and no... I do not speak that language I have not managed to learn any words from his songs. In fact my last visit to Brussels included my first ever visit to a japanese/korean sushi restaurant, that is how non-japanese I am in real life
Sorry for the waffle. I never imagined to wake up to write about the last 10 years of my weird life this morning
Do you speak any other languages walktall, or does anyone here?
Do you speak any other languages walktall, or does anyone here?
The simple answer is no, I have enough trouble with English but have picked up the odd word from my travels, usually "Thank you", as this goes along way
I use to go to France on camping holidays with my Parents for years and then went there with work. In fact that reminds me of one occasion, where some French work colleges were very unsure if I did speak French, as now and again I would inject a question or comment when they had been speaking French in front of me
But would like to know Spanish, not that I particularly like Spain but for South America
