The British Hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus) is found almost anywhere in Britain, except some of the Scottish Islands. They are not so fond of uplands, mountainsides, pine forests, and wetlands.
Over past years I have noticed a decline in population of these little creatures in our area, or at least an apparent decline. The last live hedgehog I saw in the Cotswolds was in July last year whilst I was performing cache maintenance just after dark, not too far from Northleach in a quiet wood (photo below).
Hedgehog Awareness Week is running from 5th to 11th May this year. I have set this Locationless Cache Challenge to start alongside this, but it will run indefinitely.
To complete this Locationless Cache Challenge you must take a photo of a live hedgehog found within the Cotswolds. The photo must be taken not before the posting date of this challenge (May 4th 2013). Ideally you, your GPSr, or another item that would help prove that you were there too, would also be in the photo. But if this is not practical, and so as not to scare these little animals by holding objects close to them or getting too close yourself, I will not force this part.
Please post the coordinates of where you took the photo in your log, and let us know a bit about what you were doing when you came across it.
There is a Harry the Hedgehog RSPCA badge for the first two members to log a hedgehog find.

It was actually dog who found it, so its his first ever find (no interest in tupperware!). He had been up and down all night and when we went out to check on the chicken he dashed into the run and started barking at the hedgehog. Having a look this afternoon there is a gap that runs along the the whole of the street between the back walls and the panel fence, a veritable hedgehog highway! He was gone by this morning, which I'm glad he wasn't stuck, but would have liked to get a picture that you could actually see him properly.
Let the dogs out into the back garden late last night before going to bed, I walk round the garden checking for cats and after a while there was a bit of comossion! The dogs had found a hedgehog on the lawn by one of the flower beds.
Had to pull Archie off (he's got no teeth), as he keeps prodding them, Poppy just barks at them and took them back indoors.
Came back out to check on the hedgehog, it was still curled up:
Went back in, sorted dogs out and then came back out again to check on the hedgehog but was nowhere to be seen.
