This was for a FTF on FCC-01 Hinksey Stream cache, on the edge of Oxford. A different CO than the other one but again, the CO had intended cachers to find this using a boat, this time a bit smaller boat.
I've just finished my first session on an indoor climbing course at Sport Martley in Worcestershire. I was going to just get a harness & some rope from my local Go Outdoors shop & launch into doing some 5/5's but realised that probably wasn't a good idea so I put my name down for a climbing course to learn the basics & make sure I am safe.
Oh my god....4 hours after the lesson finished & my legs still feel like jelly & my arm muscles still have the odd spasm......it was bloody brilliant & I loved it!! It's given me a huge incentive to lose some weight & get fit By the end of next Thursday I'll be classed as a "competent climber" (which means I can attend an indoor wall & climb & belay a partner) & I'm really looking forward to doing some 5/5 geocaches as well as getting out to climb some real mountains
Once I've mastered shimmying up the outside of mountains I think I'll need to get comfortable in going underground so I can have a go at the Above Below series
It's something I should really do too. I have been to one indoor climbing place in Gloucester a while back, but we weren't allowed on the highest walls as we were not "competent climbers". I still am not one. In fact I am a long way from being one. Without the use of ropes and ladders I would not of gotten out of a couple of places I have been to. And even with using, I can definitely relate to feeling in the arms and legs. When using different muscles you really feel it afterwards.

After reading your post Robbo, I was sat on the computer at work looking at the link centre climbing wall with the intention of doing the same. Until the horrible local radio station that the girl in the lab listens to challenged the morning presenter to climb it and do an interview at the top. Might wait now until its died down a bit. Have the harness though now and just need a rope and recently did a safe working at height and harness course at work. So if you need a chunky belayer..
I've done those with TJ and were great fun but for me, what took me to the edge (& perhaps slightly beyond) of my comfort zone was this. I felt more at ease after a while but TJ, I don't think you would like this one Some of our group only got so far and decided it was toooo much
Now I'm back in the UK, I managed to avoid the lovely spiders and snakes in Oz (just) so I'm up for some extreme caches without actually killing myself, I have rock climbing gear (minus rope, that was stolen) and I have an inflatable kayak.. Whose up for some fun?
Good to see you back me duck Hope you had a successful visit to the land of Oz.
I'm up for some more interesting caches but have to limit how many weekends I can cache on, as the wife is muggle
Cheers WT, I managed to help in the move from one house to another, a day that lasted 20 hours and a lot of boxes, a lot of furniture and 28,544 steps taken! We've managed to decorate and wall paper my niece's bedroom, I've installed new security door bolts, replaced bathroom fittings, a wired door bell system, fit blinds, sort out kitchen issues, tidy and garden the old house before handing it back over to landlady, and that's all at the same time of helping to look after a now 17 week old baby and child care Austin and his 7yr old sister.. Only 48 caches found the whole trip, but I complete the whole month of caching! Also while trying to avoid putting my hands near redbacks, and keeping away from those lovely snakes they have there.. So some extreme caching when I end up 20ft up a tree to get a biston tube hanging from a branch! I did end up under 2 bridges city centre in Melbourne.
Thanks for those suggestions. I sense the need to start planning another trip soon! Not many extreme caches up here in the W Mids.
Pir8sOld&New did you find any worthy caches in OZ? Going to Sydney for six days on way to NZ myself soon
Cheetah, They quality of caches I did find varied from greatly thought out, to the very basic, up to the owner really, but very keen on multi's and mystery caches around the area I was. I just questioned at times the locations and if it really is worth putting my hands in a hole in a tree where I can't see what is inside. The Warmer it gets the worse 'They' get.
Welcome back Pir8s! I'm liking the look of Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate, especially as I now have rope & will travel
The last session of my climbing competency course was last night. My arms still feel like they're about to drop off this morning, but I've passed!!! I feel really chuffed, especially as I must have been about 20yrs older than the instructor & other 2 learners lol It was brilliant & I can't wait to do more climbing but I also can't wait to do some 5/5s that need rope I have my own kit now, including a 20m static rope so if anyone is planning an extreme cache requiring rope let me know. If I'm free I'll be there!!
