Oh my! Glad to hear you are ok. That looks like it took quite a whack, did it get run over by another vehicle?
Sorry but I don't have any personal experience of getting GPSrs repaired, maybe one of the others do. I'll tweet this thread though to see if someone else in wide world can offer info.
I had it in the bike mount, and it took the damage as the bike slid along the floor. I'm trying Garmin support first to see if repairs are possible.
At first I hoped it was just case damage, but some of the buttons are punched right into the unit and the casing is warped arount the top at the back of the unit.
Spent 40 mins waiting to speak to Garmin, but I'm getting a replacement GPS from them for £82.80 once I've shipped my unit back. I think this works out cheaper than claiming through the insurance.
I'll be using my old etrex 10 on the bike going forward I think....
The GPS looks to have taken a major hit. Wouldn't surprise me that the force has be transferred to the inside and has damaged the unit internally, so that is excellent news from Garmin.
Came off pretty well I think! my left brake handle is very scratched but cosmetic only, and my front light, GPS mount and bell were all destroyed as well. Lucklily I didn't have my phone in the handlebar mount at the time.
Not haduch experience of the customer support although remember to remove the SD card with the maps on it. Garmin may not ship you a version with those installed.
I know a cacher down Somerset way who had exactly this happen to him.
My leg is still sore - I was hoping for a nice bruise to show the Mrs but nothing showing yet!
The GPS got sent off at lunchtime, so hopefully I'll have one back in a couple of weeks, really hoping it arrives before I do the GCW but at least I have the etrex as standby.
The Garmin agent told me to take the SD card out so no worries there!
Really pleased you got yourself sorted out with a new one quickly. Where did you have to send it back to? I mean, was it a UK address, or did it have to go over the pond?
