Meet will be in the main pub. If it’s a nice day there is an outside area with tables and a small play area for young children. If it’s miserable outside and we are many, we have permission to spill over in to the back room.
The pub has a small car park behind it for patrons. Otherwise there is plenty of parking in Cirencester town centre, but all council run car parks are pay and display. If parking in the centre please be aware of this. The latest ticket prices can be found here:
This short meet 'n' greet pub event was planned to coincide with one of the few days the Cirencester Parish Church Tower is open to the public this year. On top of the Tower is this Trig bolt, and outforthehunt have kindly said they will move their Ye Ole Survey Monuments movable virtual cache to this position so that those who ascend the tower top can log this cache
There is a cost of £3 per adult and £1.50 for children over 8 and full time students to ascend the tower. Unfortunately children under aged 8 are not permitted to climb the tower. More details of the tower open day can be seen here. Details of the church can be found here.
It's a shame that some may miss. It would be hard to find a date in the Summer that everybody here could make. I chose that day as it was the nearest day I could do what I wanted to do.
If there's a good interest maybe it can be repeated later in the year, there will be a couple more opportunities when it could take place again.
Sorry to be a bit vague, will give more details very soon.
The last CacheWalker SplashMob Event was great fun, and the one before that! Look forward to another, please do this
I have submitted the Ascension cache event page for review. Event name changed to 'Prelude to Ascension'. I do not expect it to go through first time, but fingers crossed. A bit more info now...
If it's passed in it's current form, there will be two parts to it. The 'Prelude', a simple meet and greet pub event. This will be in The Wheatsheaf Inn in Cirencester from 12pm to 1pm.
Afterwards there will be an optional second part, the 'Ascension', where I will head to the Parish Church in the market place and, as this particular day is one of the very rare tower opening days, I will be ascending the steps to the 162' tower roof. Anyone who wishes to join me / follow me, can do.
There is a charge to be able to climb to the roof, and this is what may scupper the publication of the event page, so may need to be re-written yet. However it is not really commercial, so it just needs to be worded right. Originally I was going to hold the event just on the roof of the tower, but that would mean there would of been a mandatory fee to pay for everybody who wanted to attend, and I could not see that getting passed easily.
There is a trig point bolt on top of the roof of the tower, hence my question about YOSM in this thread. Will not be mentioned on the event page yet, but this virtual cache will be logable for this location from the event day
Thank you for the info Pir8sOld&New. I may use this to arrange one on another date during the year.
The page as it stands was rejected, but not quite for why I thought it might be.
Reviewer quote...
The guidelines say, If an event is already organized outside of the geocaching community or it will happen without a Geocaching.com listing, it is likely not an Event Cache.
Not that it is really an event, or that it is much different to the set up of the Bone Caves, in which it is only open a few days a year. But I am not about to try an argue a point which I know I won't win.
So a re-write needed. I am not too despondent as I expected to re-write. At minimum there will still be a simple meet and greet event at the pub location for the same date and time, and by word of mouth, through here, and by talking with others at the event, I will make known about what I plan to do afterwards. Will have a think about and re-write later.
I know it's bad to think this, but of late, quite a few people have spoken to me negatively about reviewers and the facts some caches and events are getting a lot of red tape, it causes stress for those who organises things, it delays when wanted and reduces the fun factor.
(Off point, but I wonder if Terracaching and Opencaching are as strict?)
Back on topic, I hope information helps, and something can be organised, who knows a small donation to the tower might help get it open for a private tour and chance of getting to the top without too many muggles.
Isn't the idea of caching to bring others to somewhere of interest that you wouldn't have normally visited. Caching is supposed to be fun - not about red tape and GS trying to keep a monopoly
They do take the fun out of it, some of my caches were archived today:
By the time you can maintain this cache it will have been unavailable for nearly 12 months. As you say that is rather unreasonable. Therefore I'm archiving this cache.
Note the emphasis, seems like sarcasm to me. Was that needed? Do they not realise we have lives outside of Geocaching.com
I would even go as far as to suggest dropping a light note to Groundspeak with regards to their conduct. Sometimes their comments and persistant reminders can be rather stressful when you've got other things going on

Dad went out the other day and re-did all my series because I was waiting for a reviewer to make a comment. I've got two of my larger containers back.. Time to rebel!
