For me it is a good question as I could do with a little refocus.
In my first post (Oct 2012) in the oldest welcome thread I said the following:
I have created this forum for a place to bring together local cachers, though cachers from any area are free to join up and contribute if they wish.
I hope to use this forum to get people together for official geocaching events, meetups, or expeditions out of our local area to do caches some of us may not normally get the chance to do because of lack of transport or other reasons. And to also make others aware of geocaches that are there to be found that are not hosted on geocaching.com.
I wanted to help everyone, that included myself, to get together to get to, and do caches, that we normally would not be able to, or want to do alone. My family is not flushed with cash and so are not able to travel far often. I knew others who are the same, and others who do not have transport or do not drive, and I thought that a place for this would be useful.
At the time I could not find another online place for our locality that did that. The UK part of the groundspeak forum had one thread about getting together with others, it wasn't really practical, and there was no way that you were allowed to talk about non-geocaching.com caches.
I found the CacheWalker forum but did not see any talk about non-geocaching.com caches, it did not look to be massively active, and I didn't get through the signup process. I have since managed to sign up, there is the odd talk of non-gc.com caches, and like this place now there are flurries of activity. So anyone reading this don't dismiss CW on these words, especially as it is being revamped right now.
I chose the free Proboards platform as I had used it before. Where as with online role play gaming it was quite easy to attract people to forums, for this real life 'out there' activity I didn't have a clue at the start where to start telling people. I stuck a note in one of my new caches and the FTF the cache was walktall who signed up. It grew from there. Thank you to all who have contributed.
I do look forward to more caching get togethers, official events, and non-official ones. Please do make use of the forum to organise, and to get together with others to travel to some of the great caches out there, and form teams to tackle some of those difficult ones. The forum is here for all to use.
Out of interest, was the CacheWalker sign up issue on the old forum? I remember that for its last few months no one new could sign up at all
To be honest I don't know. It was a while before I signed up as I am now as SangueG. A while.. a couple of months possibly? but I lose track of time easily so may be more. It looked similar to how it has been recently, so maybe the new one?
I do remember the point I gave up though which was that it said that I would receive an email with a link to click to activate. I did not receive that email. I checked my spam folder, but was not there either. All went smoothly when I signed up at a later date as SangueG.

This paragraph sums up the whole reason I continue to use the site after, if I remember correctly, I was invited by Gackt to join. Because of CC I have become a social cacher rather than a loner!
